Med Mooring for Fuel

What a hoot. Michael called and sent these pictures just after they’d taken on fuel for the next leg of the trip south. It seems that boats must Med-moor (toss an anchor, back up, and tie to dock), which is VERY difficult for full-keel boats that lack bow thrusters.

Here you can see the fuel hose dragging in the water between the fuel dock and Sea Venture, approximately 40 feet away. “Where are the floats for the hose?” Crew member Mark asked. “This, sir, is Mexico,” Michael answered.

This very kind local became Michael’s ferry driver.

Here they are, dragging the hose en route to pay for the fuel.

They have now left Manzanillo. We pray for flat seas and following winds to get them to Huatulco, Mexico, about five days away. There they will await a weather window before zipping around the Tehuantepec. I’ll keep you posted as I hear from them.
