Sea Venture in Las Hadas, Mexico

While Sea Venture’s Admiral enjoyed a white out in coastal North Carolina (our second blizzard this winter, which must be a record), her Captain and crew played in Manzanillo. Yes, I’m jealous. Sandals and shorts for them, turtleneck and sweater for me — inside.

This afternoon, Michael dove to clean Sea Venture’s prop and bottom. Said he, “Well, I survived the prop cleaning exercise, it was only a bit fuzzy, no real hard build-up on it or the hull. Cleaned the SSB ground plate, transducer fairings and some of the ‘weeds’ from the rudder post gap as well as the lechuga from the waterline. Looked at the bottom of the keel to see how much paint we lost when we grounded in the La Paz Channel, surprisingly found only two patches about 1 foot long, along the forward-center of the keel.”

Yesterday, they enjoyed Las Hadas, a high-end resort that was the setting for the movie Ten with Bo Derek. The locals were typically Mexican: warm, gracious, and eager to please. According to Michael, the harbor master apologized profusely for the cost of the dinghy dock — close to $8 a day. This is high, but it includes use of all the resort amenities, which certainly beats other places we’ve visited.

Here are some pictures from their wanderings.

Michael tells me those two masts in the background of this picture are Sea Venture’s.

  1. Ah, beautiful. I’m envious too! I followed most of the description of Michael’s cleaning exercise, but what in the world is lechuga? Thanks for sharing Admiral!

  2. Lechuga is lettuce. We’ve excellent bottom paint, but things still grow. And, sometimes, when we’ve been absent for a while or merely lazy, it looks as if we have a veritable garden growing at the waterline!
