More About Bees

The Loreto park rangers arrived by panga this morning to see if we had the requisite passes to be in their water. This was the first we’d heard that we needed passes for water parking (anchoring) as well as visiting the islands. As I forgot to get the pass when I picked up my annual fishing license, we decided not to go on the islands. (Someday I’ll catch my second fish. So far, the bonito, which one I caught off Isla Cedros a couple of years ago, was one very expensive fish.)

“No, you must pay. Please,”  said the ranger,” how long have you been here?” We handed over our pesos and assured him we’d come get a yearly pass in town tomorrow.

The very interesting bit of news is that Isla Carmen is privately owned. With our pass we can go 50 yards in, but no further. It is a bee sanctuary.

Aha. That explains it.

PS: Michael removed the trough, so at least they’re no longer swarming.
