Are you tired of making promises to God that you can’t keep? Tired of feeling happy one day and discouraged the next? We just listened to a sermon by William Carrol from Times Square Church that hit home.
He suggests that our problem is exactly what old Peter faced: the Cross. Peter figured, as we so often do, that by saying “Here I am, Lord, take me,” he’d step out in that raucous sea where Jesus walked, and, hey, right away the waves would calm. They didn’t. And don’t we so often do the same thing? “Hey, Lord, I’m here. I’ve signed up for the Kingdom. I’m ready to go with You.” And instead of the glory of the battle and the victory, we find ourselves like the Israelites on the wrong side of the Red Sea, surrounded by the enemy or the water. And we wonder where the Promised Land has hidden itself.
Take a few minutes and listen to this. I think you’ll be as blessed as we were.
Wow, I do struggle with this. As a baby Christian I told the Lord a hundred times, "I'm yours, Lord. I surrender all." After falling in the waves and stumbling to reach Jesus' hand a million times, I'm reluctant to say, "I surrender all" these days. The Lord is showing me that I've been relying too much on me to keep my promises and not enough on Him to help me stay afloat. Excellent post, Normandie!JenP.S. Don't be intimidated by my blog. It took me almost two years to get there. One baby step at a time. Love you, Jen
Jen, I keep reading the publishers who say "Platform! Platform!" and I think, huh? How do I do that? Do you realize that there are folk with over a thousand friends on Facebook and I don't know how many blog followers? The time it must take you to find all those pictures — and each one funny and apropos — boggles my mind. Because if I'm not doing boat work or snorkeling or writing to family about our experiences or keeping up with my elderly mama or my kids, I'm usually working on a new novel or rewriting an old one.I need a blogger-secretary. Can I hire one of those? You know, someone who will know exactly what I want to say (and perhaps know what I wish I'd wanted to say) and will go find all those lovely pics and write it all eloquently…and then, being the perfect secretary, let me take the credit!
